Artwork 3: PHENOTYPE 13
PHENOTYPE 13 pays homage to the poetics of scent as an expression of nature.
Balanced in a sensual bouquet of hand-harvested and synthetic scent molecules, this perfume invites the nose to delve into a chimera of the senses. Base notes of earthy oak moss, hay-like oudh, zesty cannabis and woody patchouli are accentuated by mid notes of gurjun balsam, rich amber and white musk accords, softly muted with a top note of black tea and sealed with a kiss of sweet jasmine and fresh bergamot.
Each 30ml perfume vessel is presented as an artwork, sculptured with encapsulating resin and adorned with ethically-sourced natural specimens. Giant Moth wings, blue ink-stained crabs and molding rose petals are gold-gilded and frozen in time using plastic lamination and resin techniques. The perfume sculpture is an ode to the natural ecology of the Western Cape. The body of each perfume vessel is dripped in a bespoke-dyed resin, which has been tinted with natural elements from the perfume itself, such as hand-crafted cannabis absolute.
PHENOTYPE 13 synthesises the alchemy of scent with the pleasures of visual tactility.
