CREAM OF THE CROP AND CHERRIES ON TOP

The focus is back to what we do best – FOOD.

For the past 13 editions, JAN the Journal has explored many different paths. From the start, there was a clear vision shared by the editorial team – a commitment to celebrating and growing South African print media while offering opportunities for creativity and expression. The platform was built to showcase who we are, how we live, and what we aspire to become. Along this journey, we haven’t always remained focused, occasionally drifting from our core mission. It’s in these moments that we lost sight of what truly defines us and where our strengths should lie.

At its heart, JAN the Journal has always centred around innovation in food, lifestyle, and conceptual creativity. Over the past few years, as teams evolved and boundaries shifted, our editorial direction has also changed. But today, I’m thrilled to announce that we are returning to what we do best: food. The focus is now firmly on bringing back the essence of what JAN the Journal was built upon.

While conceptual and abstract food photography has always been a hallmark of the Journal, and will remain a source of inspiration, we are now redirecting our attention to creating delicious, practical, and tested recipes – dishes that are not just visually appealing but also attainable. These are meals you can cook at home, share with loved ones, and bookmark for future inspiration. The goal is for you to build your own culinary journal, with the groundwork we provide guiding you toward deliciousness.

JAN the Journal Volume 14 marks the beginning of this renewed commitment – a comeback focused on delicious, healthy, and above all, achievable food that stays true to our roots while inspiring the future.
